PZ Cussons Assists GHS and Korle Bu Fight Cholera Outbreak

PZ Cussons Ghana, a major manufacturer of personal healthcare products, and consumer goods, has donated items worth thousands of Ghana cedis to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
The items included antiseptic soaps and liquid, hand sanitizer and other baby and general disinfecting products. Charles Djangey, a corporate communications officer for the company at the event indicated that the rationale behind the donation was triggered by the outbreak of sanitation related diseases including cholera in the country. He further stated that the items would by their gesture go along way help in eradicating the diseases through hand washing. Mr Djangey indicated that this was the right time to intervene to help reduce the outbreak of sanitation diseases. 

The Deputy Director General of GHS, Dr Gloria Quansah-Asare thanked the company for recognizing the impact of sanitation related diseases hence the donation of the items. She stated that the items would be put to good use especially among pregnant and nursing mothers to help reduce the rate at which new born babies are dying. Dr Quansah-Asare urged all mothers to adopt the use of antiseptic soaps to wash their hands before handling their babies and food. She called on other corporate bodies to emulate the steps of PZ Cussons to assist the health sector in dealing with some of the health problems in the country. Mustapha Salifu, Head of Public Relations at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, a beneficiary of the donation, noted that the rate at which sanitation related diseases kept rising and falling. But currently the  rate has dropped.
